2022 PROTON X70 LAUNCHED WITH NEW ENGINE OPTION AND REFRESHED FEATURES

Subang Jaya, 9 June 2022 – PROTON today launched the 2022 Proton X70, offering styling updates and a new option for buyers seeking an SUV with improved fuel efficiency. Malaysia’s best-selling C-segment SUV now comes with a 1.5L TGDi, turbocharged direct injection engine, presenting a new compact alternative to the familiar 1.8L TGDi engine.

“PROTON is proud to introduce the 2022 Proton X70, a model that has maintained its position as the best-selling C-segment SUV since its launch. Over 70,000 units have already been sold and today, we have added styling updates and a 1.5L TGDi engine to the range to offer prospective buyers more choice. It promises a similar level of performance to the 1.8L TGDi variant while adding improved fuel efficiency, thus fulfilling the desire of our customers for an SUV that is not only outstanding in performance, features and aesthetic appeal but is also affordable to own and run,” said Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON.

Performance Designed for the Millennial Driver
Developed with the latest engine technology and innovation, the 1.5L TGDi engine has been five years in the making, involving over 100 key experts in a global collaboration and recording over 12 million kilometres of testing in the most extreme and stressful conditions and climates. The highly reliable and market-proven engine has recorded over 750,000 units on the road globally and is available in 22 countries with diverse weather and road conditions.

With higher efficiency per cylinder and a more compact engine packaging, chosen to suit the contemporary millennial driver, the 1.5L TGDi engine achieves a max power output of 177PS and torque of 255Nm, hitting its peak earlier at 1500rpm. In comparison to the 1.8L TGDi engine, there is a 7% reduction in fuel consumption on the urban cycle. Customers have the option to select the AWD variant, equipped with real-time intelligent AllWheel Drive system, which automatically transfers torque to rear wheels based on demand, thus improving handling according to varying road conditions.

The 1.5L TGDi engines are built at Tanjung Malim, at a new production line that meets the strict quality standards required for one of the most advanced locally assembled engines in Malaysia.

Refreshed and Refined Design
Beyond the engine, the 2022 Proton X70 also offers enhanced features for the driver and passengers’ comfort and a refreshed look. These include quartz black finishing on the front and rear bumpers, new 19-inch alloy wheels, power tailgate with foot sensor and Nappa leather seats with new black headlining. For added comfort and peace of mind, the 2022 Proton X70 comes with Proton Intelligent Air Purification System (P-IAPS) – a combination of N95 cabin filter (incorporated into the air-conditioning) and air purifier system, works twice as efficiently to improve the air quality inside the cabin.

Redefined Connectivity and Reassured Safety
The 2022 Proton X70 offers a host of intelligent and connected features that make driving more convenient and safer. With Voice Command, saying “Hi PROTON” allows the driver to operate the windows and air conditioning, or even access online navigation. Additionally, the PROTON Link app monitors vehicle status and allows for remote control of specific functions. For added enjoyment and convenience, the nine speakers with power amplifier and subwoofer enhances the music experience while the six USB ports provides ample charging solutions.

Safety is also prioritised in the 2022 Proton X70, which was awarded the 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating, supported by a comprehensive list of safety features such as six SRS airbags, Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and 360 camera with 3D display for hassle-free parking.

Exterior colour options for the 2022 Proton X70 are Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, Ruby Red, Cinnamon Brown and Space Grey, offered in accordance with the variant chosen.
